The launcher for Minecraft that sets everything up for you.

Modal's Home screen in the Lines layout: OptiPack ready to play, recent instances, quick actions, and recommendations picked on this PC

From a search to a running game

Captured from Modal itself as it installs OptiPack, a public-domain modpack, and starts it. On this page Discover lists only public-domain projects, which is why its lists are short.

  1. Discover searches Modrinth and CurseForge. A modpack installs as an instance of its own.

  2. It appears at once, in the sidebar and on Home, and fills up as its 35 mods download.

  3. Modal downloads the game, Fabric, the right Java, the libraries and the assets, then starts it.

Shown on a preview version of Modal, so things may change before release. Projects that didn't meet our licence criteria were left out of these screens, so no one else's work is shown without permission.

Recommendations, worked out on your PC

Modal asks Modrinth for the same public lists every player gets. Nothing about you goes into those requests. Choosing what fits you happens afterwards, on your computer.

What it learns from

  • What you play
  • What you install
  • What you open
  • Words you search
  • What you like

How it picks

  1. Close in tags and words to what you have
  2. Fits the loaders and versions you play
  3. Weighs how popular and how fresh it is
  4. Mixes kinds, so nothing repeats

Personal recommendations can be switched off in Settings, and Forget what Modal learned deletes everything it noted. How Modal handles your data

Every modpack in its own instance

An instance keeps its own loader, Minecraft version, mods, worlds and settings. Update one modpack and the others stay exactly as they were.

Try it: this is a working copy of Modal's Instances page. Open an instance, press Play and watch its log, turn mods off, rename it, duplicate it. Nothing is downloaded and no game starts, and a reload puts everything back.

  • Duplicate an instance before you try something risky, and keep whichever copy works.
  • The Content tab lists its mods, resource packs, shaders, data packs and worlds.
  • Settings save as you change them. There is no Save button to forget.
