What Modal is

A clean, modern launcher that keeps the parts of Minecraft you love front and centre, and tucks the busywork out of sight.

Every setup lives in its own instance, so one modpack doesn’t break another. Pick a loader and a game version, and Modal handles the rest. Discover lets you search mods, modpacks, shaders, resource packs, worlds and servers from Modrinth and CurseForge, and install them straight into an instance. Skins are built in, and your last instance waits on the home screen, one click away.

Who makes it

Modal is developed and maintained by an independent, unregistered group of volunteer developers. We are not a company, and Modal is not a commercial product. It is free of charge.

This website and Modal’s organization on GitHub are run by Milan, an individual developer based in Hungary.

Because we are a small team, we can’t promise round-the-clock support. But a real person reads every message, and bug reports are always welcome.

What we care about

Free and open source
Modal costs nothing, and its code is licensed under GPL-3.0. You can use it, study how it works, change it and share it. If you share your own version, give it its own name so nobody mistakes it for ours.
Private by design
Modal sends us no analytics, telemetry or crash reports, and your recommendations are worked out on your own PC. See how we look after your privacy.
Independent
Modal is not affiliated with Mojang, Microsoft, Modrinth, CurseForge or the mod loader projects. You play with your own Microsoft account that owns Minecraft: Java Edition, and the mods you install belong to the people who made them.

NOT AN OFFICIAL MINECRAFT PRODUCT. NOT APPROVED BY OR ASSOCIATED WITH MOJANG OR MICROSOFT.
